Who is a sworn translator?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A sworn translator (whose activities are regulated by the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of a Sworn Translator) is a person of public trust authorized to do and certify translations from a foreign language into Polish and from Polish into a foreign language, to make certified copies of writings in a foreign language and to interpret. The prerequisite for obtaining the right to practise the profession is successfully passing the official examination. A sworn translator cooperates with courts, prosecutors, police and public administration bodies.<\/p>\n

What does a certified translation look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The status of a certified translation is given to a translation prepared by a sworn translator. The seal and signature of a translator are used to authenticate the translation. A translator is also required to describe what the document looks like, whether it is the original, a copy or a scan, whether there are seals, signatures, watermarks or other security features. Underneath the translation the certification formula and the repertory number are placed. It is essential that multi-page documents be stapled together in a permanent way that prevents them from being disconnected. Certified translations are presented in courts, registry offices, notary's offices, banks and other institutions.<\/p>\n

Can I get a translation with an electronic signature?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Article 18 Section 1a of the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of a Sworn Translator provides for the certification of translations by means of a qualified electronic signature. Usually such translations are made on the basis of documents sent to the translator in an electronic form.<\/p>\n

What is the difference between an ordinary translation and a certified translation?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ordinary translations are done electronically, usually in a Word or PDF format, and do not contain information about who translated the document. Certified translations, on the other hand, bear the signature and seal of a sworn translator and a unique repertory number.
